labor and delivery

well.... as soon as i decided i was going to go home and visit i went into labor... and once she decided she was ready... she came fast! contractions started the morning of the 27th and i didn't pay much attention to them because they were mild and i had been through so much false labor i figured that was what was going on but they kept on all day and in the evening when we checked into the hospital they started to hurt... then they got worse and worse fast... then my dr decided to break my water and the contractions went to two minutes apart in less than ten minutes... super painful... then i got an epidural because i was kindof a scaredy cat :) i thought it was going to get way worse but what i didn't realize (what i don't think anyone realized) is i was probably in transition then because after i had the epidural they checked me and i had dialated to ten inches! i went from 4 to 10 inches in like 4 hours! i don't know for sure but i think that's pretty fast :) so.... since i had the epidural and finally wasn't in pain anymore and didn't feel the urge to push my dr told me to take a short rest and let the contractions work on pushing her down... so after like a 20-30 minute nap it was time to push... on the first push her head started to come out... i pushed on two more contractions and she was out at 12:30am! it was amazing! i couldn't believe how fast and easy her birth was... and no stitches either! i felt great... later that morning i took a shower and we left the hospital later that day!

an end in sight....

so... little girl is going to be a leo like maiko... i scheduled an induction on thursday so i have an ending point to look forward to... i might change it to friday though because maybe she wants to be born in august like her brother :) it feels good to know there is an end in sight... lately it feels like i could be pregnant forever! i am also planning to go home for the day tuesday as long as i don't go into labor... it will be so nice to go home :) i feel confident that if i go during the day that i can get back in time if i go into labor, it's just the thought of waking up in the middle of the night over there in hard labor that worries me so i will just come back in the evening...

i miss my farm...

so so homesick... it's so hard to be away from home these days... i miss all the little things like watering my flowers and watching the ducks and chickens while i drink my coffee and the nice cool hard wood floor on my bare feet and waking up to the beautiful yaquina river every morning... and i really miss matt...

40 weeks pregnant argh...

the 23rd was my due date and yes i am STILL pregnant! i can't believe how far my body can stretch... look at that poor abdomen :( i went to the dr and found out that i am 3 cm dilated and 80% effaced and that the little girl is turned posterior which means her face is turned toward my spine and that labor will probably be pretty painful and she will be somewhat difficult to push out... i think layla was in the same position... luckily i'm not against having an epidural, so if i'm in a lot of pain i will just get one of those and all will be well... i really hope this little girl comes out soon because i'm dying to meet her and i am so ready to not be pregnant anymore!

what a wonderful thing...

i love this...
i can't imagine a better place to raise my children...
i love watching them play in the yard with the birds and go out and play in the pasture under the apple trees, just exploring nature and being kids... i wonder when they will realize just how lucky they are :)

my beautiful daughter

she's getting so big... third birthday on tuesday the 14th!

false alarm

last wednesday i was working around the house and kept thinking, i might be having contractions... hours later i was sure they were contractions and they were consistent... it was getting late so we decided to pack up and head to lebanon. the whole way over to lebanon i was timing them and they were two minutes apart, not painful at all though so i knew it must be early labor but i thought "this is it." when we got to lebanon it was like 11:30 and i called the hospital and they told me to try and get some sleep and come in when they got painful... so, we put the kids to bed and i went to bed (still having contractions). at some point during my sleep the contractions stopped. i went to my dr to get checked the next day and i was only 1 maybe 2 cm dialated... i was surprised... when i had layla i had similar contractions and dialated to 5 cm... but every pregnancy is different! so, i am curious what my next experience with labor will be... and i will find out very soon! can't wait to meet this baby girl and get my abdomen back :)

maiko lost his first tooth!

maiko is getting so big! i can't believe he just lost his first tooth... i absolutely love this new grin of his.

our first rooster

so exciting...

as our new batch of baby chicks has been growing up we realized that we have a rooster! i'm very excited because so far he has been a very nice rooster and now we can hatch our own baby chicks and ducks next spring! i have always wanted to incubate some for the kids and look forward to collecting our own eggs and hatching them in the house where the kids can watch! also, if anyone wants some fertilized eggs to incubate and return to the farm if they don't have room (hint hint caylan) i think we could work something out... :)

right now he's working on his cock a doodle doo :) it's so cute!

strips and squares quilt

quilt i made for baby girl... i used special fabric that my sisters got me...

i cut the fabric into strips 14'' long and 4'' wide and squares 4'' by 4''. i laid them out randomly with 3 strips and 2 squares in each column. then i pieced them with 1/2'' seam allowances. i used organic cotton batting and a beautiful print for the backing that has african women dancing in the rain (i love it). for the actual quilting i just did a very plain stitch in the ditch technique. i am very happy with the way it turned out! this one will be a keeper!
