this is my now... in the form of a list
- school started... today my older two got on the bus at 7:07 am. tomorrow my six year old goes off to her first day of kindergarten, and next week the littlest one goes back to preschool two and a half hours a day, four days a week. i am really looking forward to this year of solitary connection with my youngest. the two of us get very little one on one time. i believe this will be a very special year for the two of us.
- the weather... there has been a shift in the air (the breeze has quite a chill to it now), there has been a shift in the light, the trees are beginning their color show, and we have been getting some rain.
- we got a bunny! he is a two month old holland lop. we named him gnocchi, and the little ones call him noki, which i LOVE. we all adore him. he is the perfect addition to this family.
- my big girl just chopped off that long hair. it's above her shoulders now. it's the shortest she has ever gone, and it is absolutely adorable on her.
- preserving... it feels like tomatoes and tuna have been absorbing much of my time the past few weeks, but there is plenty put away for winter now and i am switching my focus to apples.
- i got myself some watercolors. some real, artist quality watercolors. i have never considered myself to be a talented painter in any way... but... i have this crazy yearning in my soul to paint. i know it sounds kind of crazy. i have decided though, that i am going to start investing in better art supplies, and i am going to find time to start filling that need.
- all in all... the last couple months have been a constant state of chaos around here (beautiful chaos... but still), and eventhough the school year brings about it's own busyness. i am so ready for this change. just having a bit of quiet and still each day is going to be quite the healing for my weary soul.
A state of beautiful chaos is perfect! I've felt much the same way... What special moments you will have with your little one. I feel the same way about my boy. It was wonderful to have my daughter home with us all these months, but now that school has started (KG for her this year), I'm looking at long hours with my son, finding our own rhythm. He is so much older than the last time it was just the 2 of us. The adventures will be amazing ones I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteI was always told that quality art supplies are the secret to loving art. We've started using more "adult" supplies with my daughter and we see the shift in her instantly. She is more concentrated, more mindful. Se takes her time, thinks before applying color. I'm sure you'll love it. :-)

I really do think it makes a difference, for all of us, kids and adults, to use the good stuff. something about investing in it seems like an investment in yourself as well, in your time and energy and such. have fun! I imagine you'll dive right in and soar, like with the stamps :)
ReplyDeleteyanic- i LOVE that you use adult supplies with your daughter. i get my kids the better quality kids supplies but i don't give them adult supplies for many things... i should try that.
ReplyDeletethe quality time with the little ones is so wonderful, isn't it? i feel that my youngest is one of the hardest for me to find quality time with this so having a few hours carved out each day is quite a treat!

ReplyDeleteamanda- thank you for your wonderful confidence :) i am finding myself constantly "putting off" using my new pretty supplies... ha! i think this weekend will be when i finally break them in, but i am afraid my confidence is a bit low :) the point is not to be great though, it is to enjoy the process... so that is what i plan to do!

ReplyDeleteHope you are enjoying your time alone. I'm sure you'll be great at painting! I was the same way about painting at first... I actually finally got started by painting in drawings my kids made for Christmas cards. :)

ReplyDeletecarlin- it is very fun having a bunny! but wow, there is a lot to learn. we bought a bunny then started researching and although everything worked out very well for us... i wish i would've done the research first. i knew the basics, but there was a lot i didn't realize. he sleeps outside. we have a covered back porch and we put a bunny hutch out there. we keep a litter box in his hutch though and he will only go in the litter box. then when we bring him inside we have our laundry room bunny proofed and we put up baby gates and bring in his litter box, food, water, and we provide him with areas to hide. it has been working really well!
