little red riding hood

i wanted layla to wear this rain poncho over her sweater one day when she went to school, so i told her that it made her look like little red riding hood...

so she says "well, i need a basket of cookies to be little red riding hood!"

i think we can manage that.

what a week!

i'm so glad it's friday and that i have a long, hopefully slow weekend ahead of me. this has been a very hard week, i'm so glad it's over! eislee and layla came down with a cold over the weekend and by monday eislee was feeling pretty yucky. i decided monday night that i was going to keep layla home from school tuesday so that eislee could stay home and get lots of rest. i was really glad i kept bee home because tuesday she woke up feeling awful! then by wednesday layla was feeling better but maiko came home from school puking and continued all day that way. finally around three or four he stopped puking and thursday maiko and layla were back to their old selves. thursday is also the day we almost lost sweet little lonely only though... maiko and layla decided to give her a bath outside and when i came out to check on them... well... it didn't look good... i was pretty sure she was going to die. i brought her inside and matt held the heat lamp over her while i dried her feathers with my hairdryer. i'm happy to say she made a full recovery! but of course it couldn't end that way... late thursday night maiko woke up puking and layla woke up with an earache... sigh... today seems to be better though. i'm hopeful for the weekend. i think me and matt need to plan a little get away in the near future.

camping photos

this series of photos is when layla was telling us her version of goldilocks and the three bears... the amazing thing is she stuck pretty close to the original story, but added in some quirky layla stuff... she had all of us cracking up uncontrollably :)

and we drove home in a van! we drove one of mark and lisa's trucks up there and the truck broke down so they rented us a van to drive home... and i must say we rather enjoyed the extra space.

lonely only

i love everything about these pictures, the sun, the sandbox, the mismatched clothes, the tag sticking out of layla's dress, and of course the sweet chick resting in her lap... that is our dear lonely only... she was the only chick that survived the awful rat attack... and she is very lonely without her sisters... she follows layla everywhere like she's her mama hen and often layla walks into the house with the little chick on her shoulder like a parrot... i'm so curious to see how this interesting friendship grows over the summer.

i love it when she makes that face... so now eislee eats bananas, sweet potatoes, carrots, green beans, beets, and today we are going to make her some applesauce, pear sauce, and some butternut squash baby food. i love making her baby food, i didn't do this with the other kids but now i wish i did. making it is so easy and i love the comfort of knowing exactly what's in there.
