in the moment

this last bit of summer always seems to go fast.... but goodness... this year it's really flying by.
we have been doing our best to thoroughly enjoy the outdoors and that sweet freedom that only comes with summer.  we have made trips to river, ocean, mountain, and have spent time with friends and family. we are enjoying ourselves, but have actually begun to look forward to our quickly approaching school days. we have about a week left and i plan to visit the shore at least one more time. i must admit though when i look at the calendar i can't help but feel excited for fall. i just love fall. it is a magical time of year and i am really feeling ready for it now.

miss paulina spoondoll

this is one of layla bee's recent creations. she found the project in this book she got for her birthday. it was a wonderful beginning project. she asked for a wooden spool that she could draw a face on and when she finished the face she asked me to help her make the dress. i cut out the fabric and got her started with the running stitches and she took it from there. then we tied the dress on and glued on the hair (we also glued the dress for extra stability). it was fun. i love creating with my daughter. i have to make more time for it in the future.

seven years old... way too fast

oooh... seven.... really? i'm not sure if i'm actually ready for seven. the thing that really gets me is how fast seven years flew by... then i wonder what if the next seven fly by that fast... then he will be fourteen... then i feel a little bit sick to my stomach and quickly try to think of something else. sigh.
he had a really good day, even though things just barely fell together. we were all gone separate directions over the weekend and finally returned home the night before his birthday. i didn't get his birthday crown finished and when i told him how sorry i was he said "that's ok mom!" awwww, such a sweetheart.
i'm so excited about another one of the new traditions and that is the books. i've started getting them books and writing little messages inside the cover. i have these visions of them reading those little messages someday when they are grown and away from home and feeling loved.... and that thought makes my heart melt just a little. :)

seven things i love about my first born

  • i love the way he loves to snuggle in the morning and he nuzzles his nose into my side like a little bear cub
  • i love that he treasures anything that i make for him
  • i love how he always wants to include eislee in everything that he does
  • i love how he watches out for his little sisters
  • i love the way that he lines his bed with stuffed animals the exact same way that i did when i was his age
  • i love how sensitive he is
  • and how thoughtful he can be... coming up with the sweetest ways to make someone happy
  • i love how creative he is.... goodness that's eight!
that was way too easy.
maiko, i'll love you forever...
love, mama

around the house

  •  finally reclaiming my front flower bed from the chickens (now if i can only reclaim the back flower bed from the weeds).
  • a certain big little girl has entered a new stage of independence... dressing herself.
  • i've recently adopted some new house plants (succulents... love love).
  • and some new craft books (this one and this one). we have really been enjoying some of the new simple projects and finally finishing some old ones (i'll go into more detail on these soon).
  •  window crayons... what fun! great for jotting down little bits of inspiration.
i am really hoping to make some major accomplishments in my last month of summer... painting the house, painting some furniture, lots and lots of sewing... and hopefully getting much more organized and back on some sort of a schedule before school starts again.

what are you planning to do with the last month of your summer?
