lifting the fog

one little lady wiping the dew from the old windows...

one sleeping soundly...

... two big kids off on the school bus... and a little nephew that has gotten quite big!
some advice from my big girl this morning... "sometimes you just have to face your fear and go for it" (she is speaking about wearing leopard leggings of course)

life right now is a bit of a steady blur.
where each day blends dangerously well with the one before it.
it's in times like these... the hum of the busy day (week... month...) ... that i find it increasingly important to create time to slow down and incorporate something special... something memorable... somewhere in this haze.

the thought of my life existing as one giant chore list is a bit unbearable... where even the enjoyable tasks, apple picking for example, start to feel like a big stone on the shoulders.

while i do have to remind myself that it is almost over... the picking, the preserving, the time for the outdoor chore list, the fall sports schedule (oy!)... it is also time for a (long overdue) break from the "need to do" list in exchange for a bit of the "want to do" list. even if it is just for the morning...

some fall stamps maybe... i also have a huge pile of mending just waiting for the latest issue of taproot (issue mend) to arrive... not to mention katrina roudabough's free online course i signed up for, slow fashion style... then there is this adorable little five year old girl who has been begging me to get out the autumn decorations and today is october first...

yes... i do believe this day is full of opportunity for fun and connection... and i plan to seize it.
(and i may even pick a box of apples or two).

  2. thank you amanda :) i still swoon over the apple trees too... until time to pick them that is... picking them is no easy task! i am so in love with your wood pile... we are far from where we need to be... but we will keep adding to it. and the white faced cow :) her name is angel... she was just a baby when i first visited this place.

  3. if only I could walk on over (or drive, or whatever, but just not 20+ hours ;) and help ease some of that burden by helping pick and eat some of those apples for you- I'd be there in a heartbeat! no doubt it is a HUGE undertaking. you could host an apple picking party.... have some folks over to help with the picking and feed them some yummy soup and pumpkin ale or something. and I bet the wildlife wouldn't mind too much if you don't quite get all of them picked ;) I bet it's hard though, all of those apples starting you in the face everyday, taunting you. I'd want to pick them all too, if only there was the time and energy.

    that Angel is hauntingly beautiful.

and a picking party... that is such a fabulous idea!! if i started doing that annually... my goodness that could really lighten the load. thank you for giving me some hope in the form of a fantastic idea :)
